How bent spaghetti breakOur modelIf the pasta is bent with a uniform curvature, the first breaking event is governed by the presence of defects and is therefore difficult to predict. We devised a simplified experiment in which we mimic this initial breaking event by releasing the pasta at one end. Both phenomena are described by exactly the same equations. The release experiment has the advantage that the uncertainty related to the position of the initial breaking point is removed. |
